Christopher Hughes, Membership Secretary
I have been a keen conservationist for many years and since joining Devon Mammal Group and working as a Devon Wildlife Trust volunteer I have been on a steep learning curve which has been very fulfilling.
I am conscious of the fact that we all have to step up to the mark to reverse the decline of the natural environment.

Charly Mead, Secretary and acting small grants officer
I have always had an interest in wildlife, after finishing my MSc project in Bat flight I started getting more involved in practical conservation work. After moving down to Devon to work in education for a conservation charity I soon realised I wanted to share my passion for conserving wildlife with others.

Hilary Marshall, committee member
I have been a member of The Mammal Society since 1978 and helped with the Youth Group (as it was then) in the 1980’s. I am interested in all aspects of nature conservation. I have a particular enthusiasm for otters, including carrying out the survey of over 400 sites in the South West for the Fifth Otter Survey of England in 2009-10. I joined the Devon Mammal Group committee after a call for new members in 2017.

Sue Smallshire – Committee Member
Working as an ecologist in Devon since 2005, I have been acutely aware of the decline in so many of our native mammal species. My involvement in the Harvest Mouse Project finds me poking around in every bit of long grass and herbage I encounter in the hope of finding nests.

Stephen Carroll, committee member
I work as an ecologist in the public and charity sectors, following a longstanding interest in wildlife and conservation. I have been a DMG member since 2002 and committee member since 2004-5, helping with events, surveys, training, and sourcing terrible raffle prizes. Similar to another Devon mammal, I enjoy peanut butter and sleeping

Ellie Knott, Treasurer
I have been a Devon Mammal Group committee member since 2000, and have been Treasurer since 2005. I work for the Devon Biodiversity Records Centre and am keen to encourage everyone to record mammals. If we don’t know where things are, we can’t protect them. I’m interested in all mammals, but otters are my favourites – even though it took me 18 years to see one in the wild in Devon!
